US-50 goes through the city, connecting Bedford with Seymour to the east and Vincennes to the west. State Road 37 connects Bedford to Bloomington to the north and Mitchell to the south. Bedford is served by the North Lawrence Community School District. This school district includes one primary school, eight elementary schools, one intermediate school, three middle schools, and one high school located in and near Bedford. The Bedford Elementary Success Training (BEST) program is designed to work on one character trait every nine-week period, emphasizing traits such as respect, responsibility, perseverance, and compassion/empathy. Oakland City University has a campus in Bedford. Accelerated adult degrees in business are offered here. In addition to this, cooperative undergraduate classes are offered with Ivy Tech.
