Shoppers will have fun at Traderback Vendor Mall in Jasper. Similar to a flea market, there are over 150 booths of vendors offering new and used items, antiques, and collectibles. Germantown Shopping Center isn’t far away and has a number of great businesses. There are also several specialty shops in the area. The Purple Plum sells original local art, contemporary crafts, gifts, and more. Another antique store to visit is the 231 Auction House & Relics. Outdoor enthusiasts will enjoy Dubois Community Park, home to the Dubois Septemberfest. The park includes a half-mile walking pathway. Birdseye Trail, a 12-mile long multiple-use trail allowing hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking is located in the park. Careers and Industry

Construction is the most common industry in the Dubois area; almost half of those employed work in this field. The Builders Association of Dubois County has over 160 members. The mission of this organization is to enhance the climate for housing and the building industry. Builder Members are those directly involved in the construction and remodeling of residential and commercial buildings while associate members are the suppliers, bankers, realtors, and sub-contractors such as electricians and plumbers.

About one-quarter of the working population is employed in the manufacturing industry, working for companies like Indiana Furniture Industries and Dubois Equipment Company. A slightly smaller number of workers are employed in the retail trade industry. Most of the remaining workforce is employed in the agricultural, forestry, fishing, and hunting industry. Farbest Foods is also located in the area. It is one of the largest turkey companies in the United States and a leader in the industry.

Schools

Northeast Dubois County School Corporation serves the communities of Celestine, Crystal, Cuzco, Dubois, Haysville, and Hillham. Dubois Elementary School serves Grades PK-4 while Dubois Middle School serves Grades 5-8, and Northeast Dubois High School serves Grades 9-12.
