Some popular events include Food Alley, Art in the Park, the Bed Race, The Three Rivers Festival Parade, the Raft Race, and Children’s Fest.
Most events are free to the community; it is a goal of the coordinators to keep everything as low cost to the public as possible. They are supported by a number of local-community sponsors. The Johnny Appleseed Festival has been taking place since 1975 and is designed to be a learning experience for the community to experience how the pioneers of the 1800s lived. Crafters and Food Booths sell a wide variety of crafts and handmade goods while demonstrators give presentations in blacksmithing, tinsmith, pottery, and more. Camps are set up designed to look just as they would in the day of the pioneers, and storytellers tell stories of the times during the pioneer encampments.
Germanfest is designed to give the community a true taste of the local German culture through eating, drinking, and a wonderful time. Like many of Fort Wayne’s festivals, Germanfest takes place during the warm summer months and is just one of Fort Wayne’s many events during the exciting festival season.
Fort Wayne attractions include a Children’s Zoo that was voted in Parents Magazine as one of the nation’s Top 10 Zoos. Fort Wayne is also home to many museums and production venues including the African-American Historical Museum, covering the history of African-Americans in Allen County.
