About eight miles southeast is the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area. This massive preserve is complete with over 8,000 acres of wetland, upland and woodland game habitat. During their fall migration, over 10,000 sandhill cranes will stop over at the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area. This is a great time of year for dedicated birdwatchers.

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore is only 35 miles north from Wheatfield and so close you’ll probably want to spend all of your weekends on the southern tip of Lake Michigan enjoying the water, sand, food, shopping, and much more.

Of course, if the outdoors isn’t quite your family’s cup of tea, you can always drive to Valparaiso. In this larger city, there are more traditional types of entertainment such as The Memorial Opera House where you can watch some incredible plays, musicals, cabarets, and they even offer youth theater workshops.
