Boswell Area Homes

This town has been around since the late 1800s and has a number of historic homes for sale. The area is mostly rural; however, you can still find a range of options in the area from 1890s classics to 1960s bungalows. There is a little bit of everything here. The pricing of homes varies more by the acreage it sits on rather than the houses themselves, which makes the value of the area ideal for any buyer.

Lafayette/West Lafayette is the closest metropolitan area and is located 45 minutes away via State Road 352 east to US-52, which will take you right into the heart of downtown Lafayette. You’ll find some good American classics here. The little town plays host to The Farmer’s Table Restaurant where they serve up good comfort food for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Boswell also has its own pizza joint called Dallas Pizza where all of the cheese is farm fresh. Of course, what is a community without a place to buy delicious ice cream? The local Tastee Treat has great frozen yogurt as well as burgers and milkshakes. In fact, this ice cream location boasts that Yul Brenner once stopped in to enjoy a cheeseburger and strawberry milk shake.

If you’re looking to buy groceries, you will need to make a trip into either Fowler or Oxford. Most of the community grow their own crops and raise their own animals here. A local convenience store offers a few necessity items; however, driving to nearby Fowler and Oxford for groceries and other items is a way of life in small towns like Boswell. As for shopping for more specific needs, you may want to take a trip into Lafayette or West Lafayette.

Culture and Entertainment

In a small town like Boswell, much of the culture is centered on agriculture and working the local land. Boswell is home to the Benton County Fair where the local 4-H program puts on their exhibits and shows every year. Despite the area’s hard work mentality, holidays are still a time for celebration. In nearby Fowler, they certainly know how to celebrate our country's independence.

Every year, Fowler puts on a yearly Fourth of July celebration. It takes place on July 3rd, and the town opens up booths with food and hosts plenty of kid’s games. On July 4th, the area celebrates the holiday with a 5K run/walk, a pancake breakfast, a parade, a pie bake-off contest, and a dodgeball tournament.

Harvest festivals occur in other towns around the county including a three-day event in Oxford designed to celebrate a famous race horse by the name of Dan Patch. The event is celebrated with concerts, food, contests, games, a flea market, a parade, and camping. Despite Boswell’s small size and rural atmosphere, it recently added a park and playscape.

Careers and Industry

Boswell has ideal soil for producing America’s food. The main crops of the county include corn and soybeans. Don’t let Boswell’s small size fool you – the local community is still expanding its horizons. In 2008 Benton County became home to Indiana’s first wind farm. This progressive move has increased the job market of the local area and spurred a need for those educated in environmental conservation and reusable energy sources. Another local business of interest in the community is Goose Creek Alpaca Farm where they breed and sell beautiful alpacas of all colors. Schools

Boswell has one school located within the city limits. Boswell Elementary is located in the southwest corner of the city limits. Benton Central Jr./Sr. High School is located 16 minutes northeast of the town on US-52.

Purdue University in West Lafayette is about a half hour drive from Boswell. This university was the first four-year university to offer a bachelor’s degree in aviation. Twenty-three of Purdue’s graduates have gone on to be astronauts, giving the school the nickname “Cradle of Astronauts.”
