Homes for Sale in Cicero, Indiana
Cicero, named after the Cicero Creek, was founded in 1834. Located on the north end of Morse Lake, the town is largely a lakeside community. The town grew with the arrival of the railroad in 1859. Residents found employment at flour mills, a steam saw mill, and with the abundance of natural gas, two glass factories. Cicero was the home of the first bridge built in Hamilton County over a major stream, the Cicero Creek.
The bridge was later converted into a covered bridge and painted red. The “Red Bridge” became one of the town’s most memorable landmarks. The red bridge image is still used today as the town’s trademark. The bridge was torn down in the 1950s to make way for the construction of Morse Reservoir, another milestone in the town’s history. The opening of the Morse Reservoir brought a wave of steady growth and development. Cicero is notable for welcoming teenage AIDS activist Ryan White to its community in 1987. White is buried in Cicero.
