Cloverdale, a small, close-knit community in western Indiana, is located just off of Interstate 70 about 40 miles west of Indianapolis. Just north on Highway 231 you will find Greencastle, a larger town with additional shopping and entertainment options. Highway 231 acts as a main road, running north and south through Cloverdale.  Founded in 1821 by James Robinson, it didn't take long for more settlers to join him, and the first wood cabins were built here.

Culture and Entertainment

Cloverdale is home to the “House of Bells,” which is a big tourist attraction.  Bells of many different sizes fill the front yard. Although it is the house of bells, there is much more to it.  The owner has a lifelong collection of interesting, historical finds. There are battleship chains, huge buckets you can swing in, and he also claims Paul Bunyan’s Axe!

Cloverdale is home of the C Bar C Expo Center, which is a large arena where events can be held.  They offer public and private event opportunities as well as open horse riding.  They do events all year round – mainly rodeos, barrel racing, and tractor pulls.  Residents of Cloverdale love having this Expo Center for their entertainment and because it brings more visitors to the town.

Careers and Industry

One of the the largest employers in Cloverdale is POET, an ethanol refinery.  POET has many different types of jobs available from accounting to researching to operating machinery.  POET started as a single refinery in Scotland, South Dakota and has now grown to one of the world’s largest producers of ethanol.  Many Cloverdale residents have found jobs they love at POET.

Besides POET, there are a multitude of different businesses to work for in Cloverdale.  Other large employers are DISH, the Dollar Stores, and the Senior Care Center.  There are many jobs available for high schoolers, who can find available jobs at one of the fast food restaurants. Greencastle is only twelve miles away and has a variety of employment from retail to dining/hospitality to jobs associated with DePauw University.

Schools

Children in Cloverdale go to Cloverdale Elementary School.  When they complete elementary school, they advance to Cloverdale Middle School.  After middle school, they finish their grade school careers at Cloverdale High School.  All three of these schools have received an “A” Grade from the Indiana Department of Education.

Juniors and seniors can enroll at the Area 30 Career Center.  This establishment is a place where these students can get job training and prepare for post-secondary education.  One of the best things about Area 30 is that it is free!  The only costs the students have to cover are books and lab fees. This is said to be a great opportunity for juniors or seniors who want technical job training or for those who are planning on going to college and need some extra preparation.

One of the conveniences of living in Cloverdale is that it is halfway between Indianapolis and Terre Haute. Having these cities so close provides many college options.  Terre Haute is home to Indiana State University and Rose Hulman Institute of Technology; Indianapolis has Indiana University–Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), University of Indianapolis, Marion University, Butler University, and several others. Not to mention that DePauw University is in nearby Greencastle, and Indiana University isn’t too far away in Bloomington, and there are many Ivy Tech sites scattered throughout Indiana.  Many families like this because their children can get a great education without traveling too far away.
