Daleville was named for the Dale family who settled at the site in the 1820s. The town was prosperous enough during the Great Depression that it was targeted by a famous outlaw: Commercial Bank was robbed by John Dillinger for $3,500 on July 17, 1933.

Daleville Area Homes
The town of Daleville is located in Delaware County where I-69, State Road 67, and State Road 32 converge. The downtown area is located at the intersection of State Road 32 and Walnut Street. This was once the hub of the town, but today most of the jobs have moved to the State Road 67 corridor near I-69. There are two malls in the Daleville area. Mounds Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in the city of Anderson. It features retail shops, restaurants, small businesses offering their services, and entertainment venues including a ten-screen movie theater. Muncie Mall is an indoor mall located just ten miles east of I-69 in Muncie. The mall features an outdoor lifestyle center and 75 stores plus many exciting dining options from sit-down places to grab-and-go choices.
There are many dining options in Daleville. Bird's Smokehouse BBQ, specializing in slow-cooked hickory smoked meats, is where Southern cuisine takes flight. The Diner serves a full menu including the best Philly cheese steak you can find and a breakfast burrito that is huge. Thai Siam serves delicious Thai and Asian food like spicy dried shrimp, yellow curry, seafood pad Thai, and paitai. Aunt Millie’s, a bakery that makes bread and sweet treats, has a location in Daleville, and it’s a great place to pick up some goodies to take home.
Culture and Entertainment
The town’s close proximity to the White River and I-69 lends itself to being a local recreational destination. Canoe Country hosts White River canoe trips where visitors can spend a pleasant day in the sun, leisurely paddling down the river. Shellabarger Park is a great place to have a picnic, and the kids will have fun at the playground. Take a walk around the park and enjoy the beautiful natural scenes. Campers will find true Hoosier hospitality when they visit Lost Lake Campground. They can build a campfire and roast some hot dogs, take a hike, or just sit and relax. The Daleville Autumnfest is an annual festival that features a pageant, carnival rides, car shows, and a town-wide garage sale on Saturday among other activities.
There’s more fun to be had in nearby Anderson. Hoosier Park Racing & Casino is a casino with a horse-racing track, indoor/outdoor concert venues, and multiple dining and drinking options. Mainstage Theater presents five plays from May to October and frequently presents special shows for children or holiday shows. Paramount Theatre Centre inspires everyone with its architecture, entertainment, and history. It’s a community gathering place and a great place to enjoy concerts. The Anderson Center for the Arts is home to one of the Midwest’s finest collections of contemporary visual art.
Careers and Industry
Two area companies are part of a global corporation. Kaman Industrial Technologies is a one-source solution for manufacturing plant needs, and Element Materials Technology specializes in the analysis of the chemical composition. Three hospitals are within a four-mile radius of Daleville. The agricultural industry continues to contribute a great deal to the area, as it has since the town was platted. There IS more than corn in Indiana. In Delaware County, there are soybeans, too!
