It was also once home to a large 7-Up bottling facility, which ceased operations in the mid-20th century.

Careers and Industry
In the mid-19th century, people believed the sulphur-infused waters could cure a host of ailments and diseases. French Lick was famous in the United States as a spa town. By the 1830s, the supposed curative powers of the mineral springs drew visitors and created a market for hotels. By the turn of the century, the area’s attractions had expanded with the full-service resorts in the side-by-side towns of French Lick and West Baden Springs offering a variety of entertainment, golf, and other sports as well as spa-related health treatments. The casinos, which attracted the biggest celebrities of the day, provided much of the entertainment.
The casino in town has strengthened the resort industry that dominates French Lick. Another tourist attraction in town, Big Splash Adventure, is a water park and hotel that also attracts visitors year round. Because of these tourist attractions, there are plenty of jobs for those who want to work in the hospitality industry and opportunities for entrepreneurs who offer services and products for the tourists who flock to the area. In fact, there are smaller tourist attractions in the area as well. Shotz Miniature Golf and Lazer Tag is a unique recreational facility. French Lick West Baden Indoor Karting features two state of the art go-kart tracks. French Lick Winery also sells award-winning wines.
More than a third of those employed here work in the accommodation and food services industry. French Lick isn’t just a tourist town, though. About one-quarter of those employed work in the manufacturing industry. There are both large and small companies that operate in French Lick. Pluto Corporation specializes in both the production of custom blow-molded bottles, and the filling and packaging of liquid household products while Helix Technologies is a telecommunications service provider. Bloomington Hospital and Indiana University Health Paoli Hospital are located nearby in Paoli.

Springs Valley Community Schools Corporation is located in the heart of southern Indiana, and it serves the students who live in French Lick, West Baden, and the surrounding community. There are two schools in the corporation: Springs Valley Elementary School and Springs Valley Junior-Senior High School.
