With a short drive to Fort Wayne, residents can enjoy festivals, concerts, and other events at Headwaters Park, and they can fish, boat, and hike at Hurshtown Reservoir. There are three museums that are also close to the city. Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum, a National Historic Landmark, is dedicated to preserving these classic cars for public display. Visitors can see many types of windmills at Mid-America Windmill Museum. And the Hoosier Air Museum is dedicated to the preservation of aviation history from its inception to the present.

Garrett-Keyser-Butler Community School District strives to empower students to be the leaders of their own learning. Garrett has been one of the highest ranked schools in northern Indiana. Elementary students use the Mass Customized Learning program. All K-8 students have iPads and all 9-12 students have MacBooks to aid in the customization of student learning. Game-based learning along with augmented reality has strengthened the engagement of students during the school day. School instruction strives to prepare students for a career or higher education. There are 19 colleges and universities within a 50-mile radius of Garrett.
