The South Madison Community School Corporation includes the town of Pendleton, Indiana as well as the surrounding Madison County area. In 2013 this school district received an A from the Indiana Department of Education based on its graduation rate, accountability, English 10, Algebra I Graduation Exam marks, and career readiness.

Pendleton Elementary School
This elementary school educates students between Kindergarten and 6th grade. This school, much like the district itself, also received an A grade through the Indiana Department of Education. Teachers at Pendleton Elementary School aim to help students reach their fullest educational potential not just through lessons but also through community involvement. This school is divided into two buildings: Primary (Grades K-4) and Intermediate (Grades 5-6).
Students can find many ways to get involved while attending Pendleton Elementary School. They can choose from the M.A.T.H. Bowl, a Spelling Bee, a Spell Bowl, and a National Geographic Bee. Clubs include the Junior Garden, Junior Beta, choir, student council, drama, band, and art. For the athletically-inclined, students can get involved in basketball for girls and boys, swimming, wrestling, track, cross country, and golf.
East Elementary School
Receiving an A rating by the Indiana Department of Education, East Elementary School (Grades K-6) teachers are thankful their hard work pays off. This mostly rural school has undergone extensive renovations in order to keep heating, cooling, and the electrical work up-to-code and in compliance. By adhering to the Indiana Academic Standards, this rigorous curriculum focuses on early literacy and math readiness.
Maple Ridge Elementary School
This K-6 elementary school strives to broaden students horizons by introducing new materials and concepts and using technology to making learning memorable. Teachers here focus on early literacy skills and use reading, writing, and vocabulary-building as cross-curricular exercises. Students have plenty for opportunities for fun throughout the school year as well as being involved in community events.
Pendleton Heights Middle School
As an Indiana Four Star School, Pendleton Heights Middle School educates students in the 7th and 8th grades. Students who attend this school will receive a well-rounded education based on the Indiana Academic Standards. Students will also learn to connect with each other and their community during their time here.
Pendleton Heights Middle School students can participate in a number of extracurricular activities and clubs as well as athletics. Sports include track and field, basketball for girls and boys, volleyball, football, cross country, cheerleading, swimming and diving, golf, and wrestling. Students can also join such clubs as the student council, drama club, jazz band, chess team, communications team, BETA club, and AIM club.
Pendleton Heights High School
Pendleton Heights High School received an A rating from the Indiana Department of Education for 2013. Students in Grades 9-12 will receive an education from a dedicated staff in core subjects like English and math, but in foreign languages, science, arts, and history as well.
Students must also take an assessment exam through the South Madison Community School Corporation to learn which areas of the curriculum that the Pendleton Heights High School can improve in the future.
Throughout the year, students at Pendleton Heights High School have a number of opportunities to get involved in extracurricular clubs and athletics. Students here can choose from tennis, golf, cross country, soccer, volleyball, basketball, and football. Students can also join the German National Honor Society, Muse, the varsity club, book club, National Spanish Honor Society, art club, National French Honor Society, TATU/VOICE, Best Buddies, Outdoor Adventure Club, student council, FFA, National Beta Club, FCCLA, Sunshine Society, WEEM Radio, and Spanish Club.
