As the public school district for Decatur Township in Indianapolis, Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township has a yearly enrollment of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. The public school district includes one early childhood center as well as four elementary schools, two intermediate schools, one middle school, and one high school.
Also governed by Metropolitan School District of Decatur Township is a charter school, Decatur Enrichment Center, and an alternative school, Decatur Discovery Academy. Liberty Early Elementary School
This school specializes in Preschool and Kindergarten only. Kindergarten students attend school the entire day with no tuition. The preschool is tuition-based and is also available full day. There are programs in place for developmentally delayed students and for those who need speech therapy.
Valley Mills Elementary School
Valley Mills (Grades 1-6) students get a hands-on approach to learning to ensure that students of all learning types understand the lessons. They’re primary educational focus is teaching through Project Based Learning.
West Newton Elementary School
Students here get the exciting opportunity to belong to West Newton, a creative arts school. West Newton (Grades 1-6) teachers follow the “Artful Learning” model to incorporate core classes with the creative arts, giving students a valuable benefit in their education.
Stephen Decatur Elementary School
Stephen Decatur Elementary School is one of four public elementary schools within the district for children from Grades 1-6. The school provides a bully-free community and a safe environment for learning in each of its classrooms. Stephen Decatur Elementary School was also recently awarded the 2014 United Way Student Success Grant for its excellence, which will help to support the school’s Expeditionary Learning.
Decatur Intermediate Learning Center Blue Academy
Decatur Intermediate Learning Center Blue Academy, which is often shortened simply to Blue Academy, is a public intermediate school for students in Grades 5 and 6. This small community encourages extra-curricular activities in each of the students’ schedules, with fun activities such as Scholastic Book Fairs and Grandparents’ Night. The curriculum includes a fine arts department and also includes necessary practical skills in applied technologies, such as keyboarding practice.
The Gold Academy
Here at the Gold Academy (Grades 1-6), teachers focus on all of their students’ academic goals. With a variety of in-school activities each month, such as Doughnuts With Dad and a Veteran’s Day program, students at the Gold Academy are engaged in a caring and positive environment.
Decatur Middle School
Decatur Middle School offers a full and exciting curriculum to help prepare 7th and 8th grade students for high school and real-world workplace situations. With intellectually stimulating fine arts classes as well as a full social calendar of extracurricular events organized by the school’s Club Phoenix, students of Decatur Middle School remain engaged and excited about the learning process. Four small-learning communities, APEX, Imagine, Global Learning, and Explorations, have been developed within the school to assist students with unique learning challenges within the classroom.
Decatur Township School for Excellence
Students in Grades 7-12 who attend the School for Excellence do their studies in a non-traditional environment where they can learn at their own pace and are guided by mentors. These independent learners achieve their own educational goals in their own way, striving for new and different ways to attain excellence.
Decatur Central High School
Offering an engaging curriculum for students from Grades 9-12, Decatur Central High School inspires each of its students to reach their potential while staying true to the school motto. The Small Learning Communities, or SLCs, offered to students at Decatur Central High School encourage students to gain the necessary skills to work within a community and allows them to become engaged and involved with a team of their choice: Choice, Edge, ICE, New Tech, or Q&I. The Decatur Central Hawks also places a strong emphasis on its athletics. Athletic teams offered at the school include volleyball, football, cross country, soccer, golf, swimming, cheerleading, basketball, tennis, wrestling, and softball.
