The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township is located on the west side of Indianapolis and consists of eleven elementary schools, two middle schools, a 9th grade center, a preparatory academy, and two high schools. Bridgeport Elementary School

This K-6 elementary school really knows how to serve its students. Bridgeport teachers are trained to differentiate their teaching in order to reach all of their students, despite their learning backgrounds, and they offer an array of after school clubs and tutoring.  The school boasts two computer labs (a larger lab and a mini lab), a large instruction room, a video production room, a media center, and before/after school care room.  Students here have the opportunity to join in Choir, Art Club, or Gym Club.

 

Chapelwood Elementary School

Chapelwood Elementary strives to make lifelong learners out of their K-6 students. At this elementary school, teachers and staff focus on the core subjects and the importance of living in a global society. Chapelwood underwent a $7 million renovation to include upgrading the school’s technology base and also adding four new classrooms and a new cafeteria. Students are able to join in an array of co-curricular and extracurricular activities such as Spell Bowl, Science Club, Choir, Girls Club, Family Fitness Night, Art Club, and a number of other fun activities.

 

Chapel Glen Elementary School

Originally set up as an open-concept school during the 1970s, the building added walls and renovations to convert it back to a traditional style during the early 1990s. Today, Chapel Glen boasts an updated large instruction room, a cafeteria, a media center, art and music rooms, and a gym. Chapel Glen students can take part in the Math Bowl, Spell Bowl, Battle of the Books, Recorder Ensemble, Jump Rope Club, Folk Dancing and more.

 

Garden City Elementary School

Garden City Elementary School teaches Grades K-6 while focusing on its research- and standards-based curriculum and instruction.  By giving students individual attention, teachers hope to influence their students to be lifelong learners. The school has an updated computer lab, and every classroom contains a mini lab of five computers. This three-story building also includes a gym, a cafeteria, art and music rooms, and a stage. Garden City students have the opportunity to join in activities such as Science Bowl, Math Bowl, Student Council, Fit Club, and Spell Bowl.

 

Maplewood Elementary School

This elementary school serves students from Kindergarten through 6th Grade but also includes one preschool class. Maplewood students learn in a safe and nurturing environment and makes sure all learning styles are taken into consideration. The school was completed in 1968 but went through several renovations and upgrades during the 1980s and 1990s to add extra classrooms, a gym, a cafeteria, an updated media center, and new art and music rooms. Maplewood is also a Title I school. Math Bowl, Spell Bowl, Student Council, and musical ensembles are available to Maplewood Elementary students.

 

McClelland Elementary School

McClelland Elementary celebrates the diversity of its students and staff, creating lifelong learners in this global society. This K-6 elementary school offers a nurturing learning environment to all of its students and focuses on early literacy and math readiness skills. The building has undergone several renovations to update technology and add classrooms, a science lab, a multi-purpose cafeteria/auditorium, a gym, and media center. McClelland students can join in the Art Club, Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, Battle of the Books, Chess Club and other activities.

 

North Wayne Elementary School

Technology is integrated into the classrooms at North Wayne Elementary where students as young as Kindergarten in this K-6 school have access to tablets for age-appropropriate learning activities. The school reaches out to create a partnership between the school, the students, the parents, and the community.  Many clubs and activities are offered to North Wayne students throughout the year, including Chess Club, 100 Book Club, Spanish Club, Art Club, Math Bowl, Spell Bowl, Folk Dancing, Choir, and many others.

 

Rhoades Elementary School

This elementary school serves students from Kindergarten through 6th grade and also includes a Title I program and a Gifted/Talented Program. Although the school first opened in 1955, there have been several periods of renovations to the building to integrate technology throughout the school and to add extra classroom space to account for their growing population. It now includes two computer labs, a parent volunteer room, a distance learning lab, and updated related arts classrooms. There are a number of clubs and activities Rhoades students can join in including Student Helpers, Art Club, Spell Bowl, Math Bowl, Running Club, various music groups and more.

 

Robey Elementary School

As home of the Rockets, Robey Elementary School underwent extensive renovations to update and integrate technology into every classroom and add more space for students to work, including an automated library. These K-6 students receive instruction from highly-trained teachers in a caring and nurturing environment where teachers are willing to go the extra step to make sure students understand. Students can gain additional knowledge by joining in the Math Pentathlon, Spell Bowl, Science Bowl, YMCA basketball, and other activities that are held throughout the year. 

 

Stout Field Elementary School

Stout Field Elementary has a number of highly-qualified individuals teaching these students who range from preschool through the 6th Grade. This elementary school is a Title I school and also has programs in place for special education and for ENL (English as a New Language) students as well. Originally opened as an open-concept school, the building went through renovations to create self-contained classrooms during the mid-1990s. Stout Field students have many fun activities to participate in when it comes to field trips, after school and family activities, clubs, rewards, spirit days, holiday celebrations, fundraisers, and community events that are scheduled all year long.

 

Westlake Elementary School

Westlake Elementary sits on 15 acres of land that is partially used as an outdoor learning lab and courtyard. Teachers here utilize technology as an interdisciplinary tool in order to reach all students of different learning styles. Chess Club, Spell Bowl, Art Club, and Folk Dancing are among some of the activities students have the option of joining.

 

Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center

Lynhurst 7th and 8th Grade Center is one of two middle schools in Wayne Township. Following the motto of “Expect Excellence,” the supportive teachers and staff at the school are there to ensure your child meets their full potential. The school is currently in the midst of an improvement plan which includes enriching the school’s curriculum through technological and learning incentives.

 

Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center

Chapel Hill 7th and 8th Grade Center offers their students the attention needed to guide them through their formative years. The school provides a pleasant, caring environment for students to learn and encourages open communication between the school, students, and parents. Athletic programs such as basketball, football, baseball, cheerleading, track and field and others are available to Chapel Hill students as well as a number of intramurals and clubs. The Chapel Hill band and choir has received many awards and honors in the past years, and they’ve also been recognized for 10 years for Caring and Sharing with Riley Hospital.

 

Wayne Preparatory Academy

This alternative learning facility serves students in Grades 6-12. Wayne Preparatory Academy believes by making the school, the students, the parents, and the community a partnership, these students can succeed academically and socially. Teachers strive to create safe environments for students in order to stress the importance of owning their education and responsibilities.

 

Ben Davis 9th Grade Center

Ben Davis 9th Grade Center is the next step for your child where they will spend a year preparing for high school. This center specializes in the same rigorous curriculum as Ben Davis High School but with a focus on making the transition between middle school and high school. The school offers numerous athletic programs for students including cross country, basketball, football, and many more. Students are encouraged to become involved in extracurricular activities along with excelling in their studies.

 

Ben Davis High School

Ben Davis High School teaches students from Grades 10-12. This school was the recipient of the National Award for Excellence in Education awarded by the US Department of Education. Ben Davis has also been awarded numerous awards for being a model school in not only educating its own students and giving them several options to complete their graduation requirements but opening its doors to the community as well. The school boasts numerous extracurricular programs including a symphony and marching band and numerous sports teams which include baseball, basketball, bowling, cross country, football, golf, soccer, swimming, tennis, track and field, wrestling, cheerleading, softball, and volleyball. The school is currently in the midst of an improvement plan designed to enhance the educational experience of all students.

 

Ben Davis University High School

Ben Davis University High School is a unique learning environment that partners Wayne Township with Vincennes University where students can earn an Associate Degree and a high school diploma at the same time. Students in the school are accepted through an application process that is designed to prepare students for higher education. The school offers a “rigorous and innovative educational programming” which is created for students who excel in academia. Programs at the school include the National Honour Society, Art Club and many others.
